Westport Sea 2 Summit Adventure Race is a unique event based in the adventure capital of Ireland and directed by the Castlecourt Hotel. The race incorporates all the thrills that Westport has to offer, Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay, the Sheaffry Mountains and the new Greenway. Achill Roar is an outdoor multi-sport adventure race. The categories for the Achill Roar are: Expert Solo, Sports Solo and Expert Relay. The expert solo course is either a 800m swim or 2400m kayak in Keel Lough, followed by a 15km beach and mountain run, taking in the summit of Minaun (662m) and then a 45km cycle including the famous Atlantic Drive coastal route. Croagh Patrick 7 Day in a Row Challenge was set up by parents in Mayo to raise funds for children with Autism. The challenge is to climb Croagh Patrick “The Reek” 7 days in a row. Croagh Patrick Pilgrimage – Reek Sunday takes place on Croagh Patrick located six miles west of Westport. The mountain overlooks Clew Bay and the entire Western coastline. In 441AD, Saint Patrick is said to have spent 40 days and nights praying and fasting on its slopes. Over 60,000 people make the ascent on this day, starting at Murrisk Abbey.
